Too Much Easter Candy?

Kids love it, parents, not so much!  You know what I’m talking about…..all the candy at Easter (and Halloween).  This year I was trying to think outside the egg (ha, get it??) and not fill all the eggs with candy.  I usually put coins in some and stickers.  But this year, I tried to think of something that I knew they would *love*.  Legos.  Yup, I bought color coded eggs for them to hunt.  Each color will have pieces to their Lego set (note:  I bought these bigger sets, but I am going to save them for a rainy day and go buy smaller sets).

For you cynics out there, yes, I’m still going to fill some eggs with candy.  Just not every one.  And knowing my Lego crazed kids, I think they’ll be even happier to have Legos than candy.  Really.

I am totally with you on this one. It sometimes seems Easter is all about candy. I get so tired of it. I'm going shopping today and may pick up some legos, too!

I am with you!!! I am only buying a few pieces of candy. But each child got a Lego set (Evan Hero Factory, and Erin one of the friends sets, too) Plus I am getting an actual physical Angry Bird game for the family. :)
But, I love your idea of a Lego hunt!
Very cool!!!

We never got our kids candy. They got plenty at the grandparents! I love your idea of putting their set in the eggs for them to find. My son would have liked that better than candy too. He is 20 and still plays with Legos :)

Cute idea! Now just make sure you keep track of where all the eggs are! A few of ours have been known to go missing!

Hannah is going for the same goal this Easter as well, she is putting carrot and flower seeds (among other things, including some candy) to fill the plastic eggs for the family hunt. In honor of her decision, I found chocolate bunny EARS and got them for her boys (as well as Aubrey's girls!). Had to laugh when I spotted them!

Patty - we've usually done really well at ending up with the same number of eggs we hid. I was kinda thinking I'd take photos with my iPhone of the eggs we hid to make sure, and I have different eggs for the Legos as to the other ones, so I know exactly how many we need to make sure we end up with of the Lego pieces so we have them all.
