Off Into The Sunset

I took the pictures of the kids at the fair.  I was really trying to get a silhouetted look of them riding the rides.  It came out exactly how I wanted and I love that the ferris wheel is in the background!

Photo Frame

Remember the “JOY” wall hanging from earlier this week?  That was originally intended to be a folding photo frame.  But I liked the papers so much, I changed it to the wall hanging.

But because I was making it for a gift, I had to make another one.  This was the round 2 result.

Kroeger Wedding

Earlier this month I had the privilege to photograph a  wedding.  I enjoyed every part of it!  I’ve had a few of these pictures I wanted to share for a while, and now that I am finally operational again with Photoshop Elements, I can!

These are my favorite shots.

Strategy

0975 Strategy

Cody loves to play games. Battleship is one of his favorites. He loves the strategy behind it (too bad he’s better at strategy than me and kicks my toosh……)

A while back he was playing with Grandpa. I looked over and saw how he had arranged his ships all together in a cluster. Worked pretty good, until Grandpa got ONE hit and the little mister was all giggles!!!!

JOY

I did this wall hanging a few weeks ago. It started out as a different project. But it took on it’s own design and quickly morphed into this.

Happily, it now hangs in the no longer blank wall space by my front door. A space that has been stark for 3 long years, waiting the perfect item.

A peek at my spices

I have a confession.  I love to be organized, but I’m not always great at achieving it.  (okay, truth be told, I’m horrible at maintaining it, but I would so love to be…..)

Anyway, a while back, I got so frustrated at my spice cabinet.  None of the jars were the same size or shape.  Some that I order from my whole foods wholesaler come in bags only.  How am I supposed to keep it organized?

Sure, there are lots of fantastic spice containers out there, but they’re just too expensive.  I wasn’t about to drop $100+ organizing just my spices.  Then I realized I had all these 1/4 pint jam jars……hmmmmm…..PERFECT!!!

And I think clear glass with food in it is just SO pretty.

IMG_3463 IMG_3464 For right now, I still haven't done anything fancy to label them.  Just wrote on them with a sharpie.  Maybe some day I’ll do something different.  But for now, it was all about simple.IMG_3465

Cast Iron

About a year ago I bought something that would forever change how I cook.

I love to cook, and from scratch as you know if you’ve followed my blog for any length of time.  I’d been wanting an enameled Dutch oven for a long time.  I finally bought one.  A shiny red one.

Oh, it was blissful.  I used it for everything.  I used it so much, dare I admit, that I’ve begun to wear through the enamel……

But this one pot started my addiction.  Cast Iron.   I’ve now accumulated several pans.  5 in addition to the Dutch oven I believe.  And I still have my eye on a couple more Dutch ovens, of varying sizes of course…….

Yes.  I admit it, I’m pathetic….

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, oh, but they’re so heavy.  Well,  yeah, they are.  But I just think of it like this, I get my upper body workout in while I’m cooking.  You see, I’m multitasking!   (and I’m reminded when it’s been a few days that I haven’t done my real strength routine when they get heavy…..oops….)

1 out of 75 isn’t bad, right?

A couple days ago I picked up one of those little cookie press do-dads.  Whipped that bad boy out today thinking it would be fun to make some pumpkin spritz cookies.  The kids chose chocolate.

So chocolate pumpkin cookies it was.  With their favorite thing, sprinkles!

Only one problem, well that bad boy is really bad.  Or, maybe it’s me who’s bad at operating it.  At any rate, I don’t know what happened, but out of about 75 cookies, only one, yes ONE came out actually looking like a pumpkin.

Oh well.  They all tasted the same.  Yummy!

Science 101

0958 Science 101

We like to do a lot of science experiments around our house. Both Cody & I really enjoy science. A few months ago we were making “explosions” with baking soda and vinegar. Sheesh, I hope the kid never gets a chemistry set, he’ll blow up my house!!!

Anyway, I was able to get this sequence of shots of his face as he poured the vinegar. He thought it was SO awesome.

Proud Of Him (and some rambling)

IMG_3449

Cody is learning to read.  And I’m amazed at how easily he is picking up words.  We’re focusing on sight reading.  Knowing him, how factual he is and how his brain thinks, it’s the best way for him to learn.  And he’s doing very well.  He had picked up words I didn’t even realize he knew!  I was so proud of him this afternoon when we were reviewing words.

And really, I can understand why it’s easier for him to learn sight words.  I mean, /o/ says o, like orange, but it also says o like octopus (sorry – I can’t find the short and long symbols – you’ll just have to hang with me).  But then when you have /oo/ it can say oo like book.  But wait, put it between the letters m & n, and you have moon.  Leaves my head spinning trying to remember it all individually!!  There are just way too many rules & exceptions to learn with phonics!!

Cody’s like me.  Just let me memorize it.  I can memorize facts & figures.  Trying to interpret rules isn’t always so easy.  Like math.  I mean, math is easy!  3 + 4 = 7.  No trying to figure exceptions there.  It isn’t 8, it isn’t 6.  It’s 7.  Plain and simple!  LOL.

Smile…or scowl

0976 Smile or scowl

I took these photos of the kiddos awhile back.  Aly was dressed up so beautifully, but so uncooperative!  But, it made for a fun page :)

Revenge of the Dorkoids

I have an off my normal subject post today. A good friend of mine (who I've never met - thanks to this crazy thing we call the internet), well, her mom has been working on a book I've known was in the works for a while now. Finally hit Amazon, today I believe! How exciting!!!

It's a little above my kid age wise, (well, considering Cody is barely reading...lol...it's grades 3-6), but it's about bullying, a problem that has just grown insane anymore.

Here's the link for Amazon if you want to check it out!! (oh, and it's the first of 12, yes TWELVE!!! - how awesome is that~!) And did I mention that she illustrated it as well???

(oh, and side note, my friend Adele is giving away a signed copy on her blog if you want to check that out as well).

Curls X Two

Several months ago, some good friends of ours came to visit.  We both had little girls just a couple months apart.  It was so fun to see them together.  While they’ve never really spent much time together, they knew they should be friends it seemed!  And they were both pretty girly.  I thought it was simply adorable that they both have lovely curls!

Just a couple of the pictures I’ve taken recently of the kiddos.  I know I’ve done a bad job of posting the pictures!  Can I blame it on computer trouble???

Life can be crazy!

Hi everyone.  I’m sorry I’ve abandoned my blog.  I didn’t intend to, but life happened!

We took a vacation, but left earlier than planned, thus I didn’t have my automatic blog posts set.  And then, well, it can be hard to get back into the groove of life!  I’m sure you all can understand that.

I don’t have a lot to share today (for one thing, I’m trying a different way to post, so I want to keep it short until I know it will work.  Secondly, I’m still catching up!  Oh, and since I had to replace my computer over a month ago, I’ve pretty much been without Photoshop Elements.  I had an old version, and it was just really picky and not running with Windows 7.  I bought the newest version (can you tell I’m actually excited :) ), but it still hasn’t arrive, so I haven’t been able to do any real photo editing.

Anyway – I’ll have lots more photos from vacation shortly, but until then, I just wanted to share this one pictures.  We planned our vacation around this train ride in Ione, WA.  All for Cody.  And I just loved this picture that shows his delight.

Thanks for stopping by!  I promise, I’ll try to do a better job keeping my blog up.
